South Korea is in the northern hemisphere situated above the mid-latitudes and has a cold temperate climate with four distinct seasons. The summer is hot and rainy, while the winter is cold and has little precipitation, but the typography varies between the north and south and in going south, one will find a moderate seaside climate.
Spring
At the end of March, cherry blossoms start blooming on Jeju Island in the south, and they can be seen in Seoul from mid-April. Other than cherry blossoms, the hills and fields are colored with flowering azaleas and forsythias. The spring is generally warm and pleasant, but due to variations in atmospheric pressure, there are hot, dry winds and yellow sand phenomenon.
Summer
From June to early-September, high temperatures are continuous, and many vacationers choose to visit the ocean and mountains, especially from mid-July to mid-August. There are many rain showers in the summer caused by updrafts of extreme surface heat, and from late-June throughout July is the full-blown, rainy season.
Fall
From September to November, due to variations between daytime and evening temperatures, intense tropical storms and typhoons sometimes cause damage, but generally the season passes pleasantly. Leaves start changing colors in early October, officially from Seoraksan, and they can be enjoyed in Seoul during November.
Winter
From December until mid-March, Siberian winds make winter extremely cold. There is deep snow in mountainous regions, so skiing and other winter sports are popular.
