→ ATM

Cards with the Plus and Cirrus logos are the easiest to use and most widely accepted in Korea. Some places even accept international cards like China UnionPay, Maestro, Electron, and JCB cards.

Banks as well as other sites have ATMs (automatic teller machines), where customers can make withdrawals, deposits, and fund transfers. However, as all ATM transactions require an account with a Korean bank, ATMs are not particularly convenient for international travelers except for getting cash advances on a credit card. If you have an account with Citibank, however, you can enjoy a more extensive range of banking services. Just visit a Citibank location nearby for ATM or counter services. Some ATM/CD machines operate 24 hours a day, while others are open from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m.

→ Banks Offering Cash Service in Korea / Credit Card
Cash dispenser machines, called CDs, which only offer cash withdrawal services, can be found in subways, convenience stores, railway stations, bus terminals, and department stores. Most are open 24 hours a day and dispense cash in 10,000 won units. Most machines display English directions on the monitor, and others also have Japanese and Chinese.

When using your international debit card at a CD machine, even one displaying the debit card logo, you may get an error message. If that occurs, look for a CD in more populated places like train stations, bus terminals, or department stores. If you get the same error message at a bank, ask a bank representative at the counter to help you.
If you have any questions while using ATM/CD machines, call the Korea Travel Phone at 1330.

→ Tax Refund
Any product with this "Tax Free Shopping" mark indicates that you will get a refund on VAT. In order to receive the refund you must depart Korea within 3 months of purchase.

1. Purchase your items at any shop with this "Tax Free Shopping" mark and receive a payment slip. (Global Refund Cheque)

2. Before you check-in, please take your purchased goods and the corresponding payment slips to the 'Oversize Baggage Input' area, if you are not going to bring your purchased goods to the airplane. There are two counters, one near section D and one near section J. Here they will give you the stamp necessary to receive your refund. (see map below for reference)

If you are going to bring your purchased goods to the airplane, you can get the customs stamp at the 'Customs Declaration' section.(see map below for reference)

For more information, please go to the following page on the Incheon International Airport's website: http://www.airport.or.kr

3. The Cash Refund Office at the airport is located at Gate 28, where you can receive your VAT refund. You may also be able to get a refund at the airport of your destination.
Most Tax Free Shopping centers are found either at department stores or shops in the Myeong-dong and Cheongdam-dong areas.

For more information call Global Refund: 032-743-4140 or 02-776-2170

This counter is on the Departures floor (3rd floor), near Gate 28.

→ Tax
Usually tax is included in prices, so the amount written on a price tag is the total amount you will pay. But sometimes in the case of high-end restaurants and hotels, there is a 10% value-added tax that isn't included on menu prices. Furthermore, there are some cases where a 10% service fee is charged.

→ Tipping
There isn't regular tipping in Korea, but sometimes there are cases at expensive restaurants or hotels where a 10% service fee is added to the base price. In these cases, the service fee is usually included as part of the listed price, so arranging an additional tip isn't necessary.
